Spent most of this morning avoiding getting on with the business of packing up everything mum might need in the care home, finished about an hour ago.......
Shortly before the last wrapped nicknack went in the box, someone from the second care home rang. She was at the hospital to do her assessment of mum (who was fast asleep) and had gone through the medical notes but there was a problem - the CPN had said mum needed EMI nursing care. The home does general nursing care and has EMI residents but does not do EMI nursing. WTF?! I'm getting really frustrated now. The care home person said she'd speak to mum's social worker to clarify the situation, especially as mum's notes said she was quite settled. I do hope I don't have to start looking at more homes. Sigh.

I looked up "EMI" to see what it means...couldn't find the words it stands for, but apparently it's for advanced dementia & indicates specially trained staff & some ratio of nurses to patients. Well, this is miserable for you! I hope things can be worked out with this place.
Sigh. I feel your frustration. Your story sounds so familiar, it's what we went through with my mom. I hope they get this straightened out for you and that your Mom can go to this care home.
so frustrating! what does it mean that they have residents who are EMI but they don't do EMI nursing? very complicated. hope this works out. :-)
EMI = elderly mentally infirm
I don't get it either. They have EMI residents but don't do EMI nursing? It sounds complicated. Hope it gets sorted without more effort on your part, you poor thing.
my mother was in a nursing home for EMI residents. the part i don't get is why they have both but don't do EMI nursing? ;-)
